This Is Veronica Mars

In Veronica Mars
Veronica Mars may be the best show on TV. Name another show that could sum up its entire existence so brilliantly:

For those unitiated (which is mostly everyone), Veronica Mars is about a teenage girl detective and airs on UPN. I’ve also just explained why no one watches the show, by the way.
Last season, these things happened:
1) Veronica’s best friend Lily was murdered
2) Her dad (the local sheriff) lost his job, and relatedly…
3)Â V became an outcast, but not before…
4) Her boyfriend, Duncan, dumped her without an explanation…
5) And then later she was drugged and raped at a party.
6) Also her mom left town in the middle of the night and no one knows where she is.Â
All of this happened before the first episode even started. So V had some, you know, minor issues to work out of the course of the season. Along the way, she solves some crimes, makes a friend or two, and starts a secret relationship with Duncan’s best friend/Lily’s ex-boyfriend/possible murderer/former (current?) psychotic jackass, Logan Echolls. Logan is, of course, one of the best things about the show.
But just because I love you, V, doesn’t mean I don’t have gripes. In fact, beacuse I love you so damn much, it stands to reason that I would in fact have more gripes than with the usual show.Â
This is harder than I thought it would be to write, because a lot of the time all my brain wants to write is “OMG!!!! VERONICA!! AHHHHH!! I LUV LOGAN 4EVA.” Which is not very funny.
So I will have to admit, up front, that I am starting to get worried. I don’t want to complain, or sound at all ungrateful, but Rob Thomas, what’s up, dude? Why does every episode have to be so gosh-darn full of stuff? Sure, there was a lot going on last season, what with the rape and the murder and the inexplicable dumping and the parental problems and whatnot (see list, above). But all of those things were intricately related to one another. Solving one meant, really, solving them all, or at least moving in the direction of the truth. And Veronica had a very high personal stake in each crisis.
Now, we’ve got a fatal bus crash and a frame-up for murder. So far there appears to be no connection between the two (but I’m holding out hope), and neither of them really affects V all that much.
While I’m speaking directly to the show’s exec producer, might I also add a thank you for removing the confusing, emotions-wise, Duncan? Even if the episode just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, it’s a relief not to deal with whatever was going on in his unfathomable mind. Hey… people… what if it’s all a big mind-fuck? Aaron Echolls turns out to be telling the truth, and Duncan really killed Lily, and V has to undo all her hard work to bring him in again, knowing that she aided and abetted a killer and sent a poor little baby away with a murderer to Mexico, not to mention locking up the wrong guy (her ex-boyfriend’s father, at that)? That would be pretty kick-ass, and would really help explain Duncan, and might mean that Aaron Echolls could become a part of Neptune life again! Aaron, you child-beating, underage-affair-having, lying bastard you. I’ve missed you.
I’m sorry, where was I?
I’m not entirely sure I had a point with all of this. In any case, it’s worth watching. Wednesdays at 9 pm on UPN. Come on, you can record it and watch it after Lost.

I don’t know, kid. I’ve been beating it in to people’s head for a year now. Rent the season one DVD! You will not be disappointed.
