Long days, flip flops, iced tea… nothing on TV

In All Things TV
It's officially summer, not because of any sort of improvement in the weather or the alignments of the planets, but because last night I found myself involuntarily watching three episodes of Friends in a row on TBS because there was nothing else on. Final season Friends, too, so it's not like it was even any good. (Maybe it's the residual stink of "Joey"'s failure, but Matt LeBlanc kind of creeps me out now.)
But I have a plan to stave off any repeats of that debacle, and it even includes shows not starring Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn. It's a Netflix orgy of shows that I've somehow missed or always meant to catch. Here's the run down:
- Lost. 20 million people can't be wrong — except about American Idol. And elections. Oops.
- Undeclared. Judd Apatow, funny man. College, good times. Cancelled before its time, they say.
- Sports Night. To psyche myself up even further for Studio 60 and my inevitable huge disappointment, I'm taking a refresher in All Things Aaron Sorkin.
- Firefly. Can't… let… go… of… Buffy… (but not going to start on Angel. Down that road lies madness.)
- Wonderfalls. Someone said it was good once?
- Deadwood. Kristen Bell guest stars!
- Jeeves & Wooster. Dr. House, the early years. (Last summer I watched all four seasons of Blackadder, and highly, highly recommend it.)
This is an ambitious list, but I have the courage and fortitude to power through at least one or two of these series.
Any other suggestions? Any of these you think I'm better off skipping?

I think you mentioned this way back when, but I’d highly recommend Six Feet Under. If it were on right now, I’d be writing about it obsessively with Runway-like fervor.
You don’t have to use up precious room in your Netflix queue, though. Bravo is going to start airing reruns sometime this year.
And good call on Sports Night. Loves me some Felicity Huffman.

I’ve been watching Wonderfalls lately. It’s enjoyable. I recommend it.
Also, I wish I could wipe all knowledge of the show from my mind and watch all of the first season of LOST all in one go. I think you must get way more out of it, even though you can’t really discuss it at the watercooler. Plus, if you finish the first season and can’t wait for second season on DVD you can download them off of iTunes! Summer is all about instant gratification.

I adore Sports Night (was watching some of the more depressing second-season episodes last night, as a matter of fact). Also, Firefly is engrossing once you drink the Kool-Aid and buy the concept and all that. Then there’s the added benefit of watching Serenity to wrap it all up when you’re done with the series.
My roommate is also of the cult of Deadwood. Aside from Kristen Bell, who’s the cutest little disease-ridden hooker you ever did see, there’s the dirty-sexy Timothy Olyphant and the compulsively watchable Ian McShane. Good list.
I also recommend Queer as Folk, if you’re in the mood for a soap opera that’s as gay as the day is long.

Jeeves & Wooster is hilarious — good choice!
Also, if you don’t watch it now, you should really watch Little Britain on BBC America. It is disgustingly hilarious.
And, Footballers Wive$ (Sundays, 10 pm) is so bad, it’s good.
