And the nominees are…

… not very exciting.

The Emmy nominations were announced this morning, and none of the Lauren Graham/underrated shows miracles I'd been hoping for panned out. Arrested Development was nominated posthumously for a bunch of stuff, and that was nice, but Kevin James? Geena Davis? Julia Louis-Dreyfuss? The leads from SVU again? This is better/different how, exactly?

The coolest thing, I suppose, if I am forced to find a coolest thing, is the overwhelming 24-ness of the nominees. Best drama, Kiefer, Martha and Charles Logan — that's a nice showing for a well-acted season.

Both Martin and Charlie Sheen are nominated. Martin Sheen is actually nominated twice — apparently he guest starred on the Two and Half Men crapfest. Both Donald and Kiefer Sutherland are nominated as well. It's intergenerational. Crazy.

The Colbert Report got three nominations — one for Stephen, one for the writing, and one for the show. The Daily Show only got two — for the writing and for show. Shocking!

And one last thought: High School Musical — shoo-in for Outstanding Children's Program.

Funny story. I totally posted an Emmy thing two seconds after you did. Here’s mine:

    The Emmy nominations are out!

Noteworthy nominations (as far as Tifaux is concerned):

The Office got nominated for best comedy and best actor (Steve Carrell).

Arrested Development (remember them?) got nominated for best comedy and best supporting actor (Will Arnett!!!).

24 got nominated for best drama, best actor (Keifer Sutherland), supporting actor (Gregory Itzin) and supporting actress (Jean Smart).

Six Feet Under (the fifth and final season) got nominated for best actor (Peter Krause) and best actress (Frances Conroy).

House got nominated for best drama.

Grey’s Anatomy got nominated for best drama (really? best?) and best supporting actress (Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson).

Also: Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List and Project Runway were nominated in the best reality and competitive reality categories respectively. Kyle Chandler (the blown-up bomb squad dude) and Christina Ricci both got guest star nominations for Grey’s Anatomy.

My first reactions? Hugh Laurie! Snubbed! Lost! Snubbed! Jason Bateman/Jessica Walter! Snubbed! Jim and Pam! Snubbed!

But luckily, this year Everybody Loves Raymond isn’t here to make everyone die of boredom.

I'm sorry, Dan. My lightning fast speed-typing claims another victim… I totally agree about Hugh Laurie. HUGH LAURIE. I can understand ignoring everything on the WB or UPN, because only children watch those networks [haughty sniff], but Hugh Laurie is on one of the most popular TV shows out there. Where is Hugh Laurie?

Additionally, in the category of Outstanding Children’s Program, High School Musical is up against I Have Tourette’s But Tourette’s Doesn’t Have Me, which I’m very sad to have missed on HBO.

I believe Stephen Colbert is also up against himself: he has a writing nomination for The Daily Show as well as writing and performance nominations for the Repore. I bet it’s a good day at the Colbert house.
