Wait just a gosh darn minute!

You know that feeling where you see someone and you're convinced you know them from somewhere?  You just can't put your finger on it, but maybe you went to college with them or they were a friend of a friend or maybe you've even seen them on TV?

I had no such feeling when I watched Survivor: Let's Get Racial last Thursday (more on that later).  As far as I was concerned they were completely fresh faces — all of them.

So, imagine my surprise when I find out that one of the castaways, Jonathan Penner, has been in TV shows and movies that I've seen.  According to his IMDB page, he's been on episodes of Arrested Development and Seinfeld, was a series regular on the mid-90s Tea Leoni show The Naked Truth and movies such as Snoop Dogg's Hood of Horror (and who hasn't seen that?).

Also, he starred alongside the rising star Cameron Diaz in a black comedy called The Last Supper.  I remember liking it as a 15-year-old.  It was about a bunch of liberals who invite conservatives over for dinner and then murder them.

Here's a picture of him on the video cover of The Last Supper and a picture of him now.  It's obvious that he has changed a lot due to a lot less hair and a few more pieces of birthday cake.

    Candice’s last name is Woodcock!

She was inspired by Survivor:Africa to do service work in Africa.

    Okay, no more.

My favorite part is basing my predictions about the show on horrible, horrible, stereotypes (i.e. “PUZZLES! The Asians have this one in the bag!”). I recommend watching with a group of racially diverse people (like I do), so that when someone else’s team fails, you can be like “YOU PEOPLE really blew that one!”

Can’t wait for gay vs. straight Survivor!

Seriously, I haven’t even seen this show and I’m still all riled up about it. Namely, if I root for the race to which I belong, that makes me a racist white supremacist, right? It’s not cool to root for whitie. Kind of like how in high school, after I was denied membership to our Asian Club, I– HYPOTHETICALLY– asked the guidance dept if colleges would look favorably upon me founding and running the White Kids Club. They told me to do yearbook instead.

I have a friend who went to college and was a part of an asian group and he was the resident cauc-asian.

Speaking of whitey. Also, in the show, the white team “put it in the middle” for a roundup of hands for a cheer and one of them said, let’s go Whities! and the politically correct white girl said, I thought we’d say go Raro Tribe, but whatever.

Whereas the Black tribe cheered “Represent! Represent!”

Yeah, same here, Morgan. But the Asians DID win!

I love all the social commentary…

Speaking of Asian clubs, Cristin, did you know the Black Student Caucus at W&M has included white people for at least the last few years?

Were they desperate for numbers? Was it a nice gesture of “reaching out to whitey”? Are black students at W&M essentially as “white” as everyone else? WILL I EVER BE ACCEPTED ON A STEP TEAM???

    You decide.

Funny you mention this, Morgan. Because, through some Facebook stalking, I noticed that there’s a lot of white people, who were in APO associated with the Step Team at William and Mary. And we know, with the acception of Darrell of course, that you can not get much whiter than APO.
…okay, that sent me on a Facebook string of nightmare wedding pictures of people i never wanted to see again, who will remain anon in case they read it.
