Battlestar Galactica: I am on the bandwagon

Holy shit, everybody. Battlestar Galactica is awesome.

This Sci-Fi channel original series has a devoted following already (heck, they get almost as many viewers as Veronica Mars, on cable), so I know that I'm late getting to this, but I just can't state strongly enough: this show is amazing. It has depth and sophistication. Visually, it's unique and takes risks. The actors will blow your minds. The score is haunting. The scripts go places you never would've expected. It fracking rules. 

I wish it were called something else. I can feel you judging me as you're reading this. "Battlestar Galactica?" you sniff. "Sounds like SeaQuest DSV, or some cheesy thing that probably has a tie-in board game." It's the name — Battle, so you've got your war. Star, so you know it's in space. Galactica, some made-up thing, which means it's solidly sci-fi. And that's all accurate, to a degree. But there's so much preconceived baggage with the name — and there's so much more to the show.

I won't bother explaining the set-up and characters here, because there's no way I could do it justice. There are robots who look human. The end of humanity. A sexy renegade pilot with issues. And lots more.

And you can still catch up! The first two seasons are on DVD. Start with the miniseries, then season one (a short season), then season 2.0, then season 2.5. It's stupid that they split up season 2 like that, but it makes no difference. It won't take very long, and then the third season only started two weeks ago. 

Do it.
