The Funk: Grey’s Anatomy
The music on Grey's Anatomy is one of the things that I like about the without simultaneously hating. (For the record, other things that I legitimately like about the show include: the acting, which is generally quite good; the fact that the cast is diverse; and, um, other stuff.) I've written about this before.
But here's some more Grey's music that you can download for free right here! And legally too!
The Album Leaf - Always For You
This song wasn't featured on the show, but another track Writing's on the Wall, was. The Album Leaf has been around for a long time — I can remember playing them (or, well, him) on my college radio show. Always For You is a very nice bit of electro-rock.
The Gossip - Standing in the Way of Control
Lesbians! That's what this group is made of! Well, plus another guy who I think is straight. But this is a pretty kickass song that includes some ragged guitars and Beth Ditto's soul singer wailing.
Au Revoir Simone - Hurricanes
Again, the show used the song Back in Time, but this was the one they had for free. I saw Au Revoir Simone at a show a few months ago and they were fun to watch. Three nerdy girls at keyboards, jumping around, playing some goofy synth-pop.
Dressy Bessy - Side 2 (you can listen to the song on the Myspace page)
Dressy Bessy is a fun retro-ish band. Their singer also knits hats and sells them on eBay. Side 2 is a kind of jumping-around-alone-in-your-bedroom kind of song.
Inara George - Oh My Love
I saw Inara George when she opened for my favorite band, Idlewild. Frankly, I thought the show was slightly boring, but maybe that was just because I was really psyched about Idlewild. In any case, she is very pretty (here is a picture I took of her), dresses well, and has a lovely voice. It's kind of Norah Jones-ish, if you like that sort of thing.
