This Weekend on the TiFaux… Super Bowl and Stuff.

This summary goes backwards, like that episode of Seinfeld.

On the left is the girl from Dr. Who. On the right is the coolest book cover ever. What do they have in common?

Sunday's the Super Bowl. I could potentially win some money in an office pool (1% chance of money!), so I'll be watching. And eating various foods dipped in sundry sauces. Also, Masterpiece Theater is showing the British adaptation of Philip Pullman's Ruby in the Smoke. I'm actually relieved Battlestar Galactica took a pass this weekend; I couldn't have caught all three on the 'Faux.

Drew Barrymore's bringing the cute to Saturday Night Live. I have nothing against Drew Barrymore (except for all her terrible movies), but I doubt this week is going to equal the solid couple of weeks we've just had on SNL. Does anything in the world look worse than Music and Lyrics

I was just looking over the offerings for sad, sad Friday night, and noticed that in addition to your Ghost Whisperers and your 1 vs. 100s, you've got Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials 2007. That's really distilling things down to the essentials. In the actually watchable category, Steven Weber, the official Best Thing About Studio 60 ™, guest stars on Monk as a shock jock who, presumably, killed his wife in a devious manner. Wings reunion. Paging Thomas Hayden Church.

See you next week!

Assorted thoughts on last night’s Grey’s…

Imagine you have an exquisite, rare songbird that is in a cage in your house.  Despite your efforts to coax it, though, she never sings.  It's frustrating and you nearly give up.  But then, one clear August day, she puffs out her little bird chest and opens her beak and starts to sing.

And all that comes out is Manilow.

That's what Grey's Anatomy was like last night, as Meredith's mom regained her lucidity and immediately began sucking.  She was all lip-pursing and crazy-eyed, telling Meredith that she was horrible.  I mean, she is, but for none of the reasons that Mama Grey said.  But I guess it's all water under the bridge at this point, because by the end of the episode she was back at square one.

I don't know how I feel about Addison sexin' it up with McSteamy again.  On one hand, she's kind of spinning her emotional wheels, but on the other hand — hot sex.  I did like the little "I'm not thinking about you" bit at the end, but I'm guessing the lesbian commenter mini-mafia were none too pleased about the whole escapade.  But, then again, I'm sure they were thrilled with her little running-into-the-toxic-O.R. adventure.  So there was something for everyone.

So then we have the marriage proposals.  I missed the first few minutes of the show, and I was a little grossed out to discover George and Callie actually went to Vegas and got married.  Especially since by the end of the episode she had picked an annoying fight with him, making him give a little sermon to Christina, Meredith and Izzie at the end that didn't really appear to be all that necessary.  Maybe I just missed something in the beginning.  As far as Christina and Burke go, this is going to make it really hard for them to kill him off (according to my masterplan).  If we have another "my fiance died, let's lie on the floor in a prom dress and then act like assholes for the rest of the season," Grey's is going to officially be on probation.

The More You Know: Avocado edition

Apparently, that's what color my shirt is.  I had been worried that it was nearly flesh-colored.

  • jack_l.jpgWell, it seems like Tim Gunn is quitting Parson's for a job in the corporate world.  What does this mean for his role on Project Runway?  Well, apparently anonymous people seem to think that he's definitely on board for the next season.  Should it really be taking this long for people to figure out what's going on with the show?
  • The Top Chef finale beat the first season finale by 157 percent.  It even beat ABC in the 18-49 demo.
  • Ed Helms is now a series regular on The Office.  No word on Rashida Jones (aka Karen).
  • If you happen to have taken Groundhog's Day off, you can watch Jon Stewart on Jack's Big Music Show on the Noggin Network.
  • Patrick Dempsey's wife just gave birth to twin boys.  And Roseanne's Sara Gilbert (who's totally a lesbian — who knew?) is expecting her second child with TV writer/producer Allison Adler.
