This Weekend on the TiFaux: Driving for Sport and Pleasure, and Because They’ve Kidnapped Your Wife

Some fun stuff this weekend, including the premiere of the new show Drive on Sunday.

Drive, Nathan, drive!

The premise sounds implausible and insane: a bunch of people are forced into a cross-country race for reasons they don’t fully understand. Huh? Let’s face it, it’s probably not going to last long enough for us to get any answers, so I’m going to just enjoy Nathan Fillion’s return to Fox while it’s on, regardless of the quality of the show.

Shia LaBeouf hosts SNL. As a big fan of Holes, this is good news.

Also on Saturday, NBC dumps the remaining unseen Andy Barkers. RIP, Andy Barker, PI. For a few brief weeks, your funny amused a very small portion of the viewing public. For that tiny slice of the Nielsen pie, you will be missed.

And don’t forget there are two more hours of the hypnotic and fascinating Planet Earth on the Discovery Channel and DiscoveryHD on Sunday.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming: Sci-Fi Channel is launching a new series, Painkiller Jane, on Friday. I don’t want to be too negative, but I’m not getting a Battlestar Galactica-quality vibe from this one. Then on Saturday, Oxygen is airing Pretty in Pink repeatedly. What about prom, Blaine? What about prom?

So, I would disclaim that I’m about to out myself as a hard-core nerd, but I think that’s already been established. I just wanted to talk about how much I adore Shia LaBeouf. I can’t really explain it. Holes was the clincher, but even before that his role on The Disney Channel Original Series Even Stevens won me over as fan of The Beef. He totally stole the show from poor, older-than-she-looks Christy Carlson Romano (later of The Cutting Edge 2 fame). As an overly-enthusiastic Shiite (props to whoever named this kid–really, really well done), I caught myself actually glowing with pride when I read the review of Disturbia, a movie not even Shia could get me to see, in the Times this morning. I’m not entirely sure why I’m admitting all this in such a public forum, or at all for that matter, but I think I need published proof of my reasoning for DVRing this week’s SNL. Why do I feel like I should spend the next 2 hours washing my hands?

Katie and I met him after we saw Disturbia (which we went to only because we wanted free dinner). The movie was actually really well made for your run-of-the-mill thriller, and the dinner was delicious. Shia was indeed adorable. If very, very young.

Go FIllion! The show looks terrible, but I’m glad to have him back.

Also, the casting of Fred as his wife- PERFECT! I hope she gets to do more than look sadly out of the back of a car…

Drive is better than I thought it would be! The Captain can save any show :)

Don’t like his partner much though. She looks a little pinched.
