In All Things TV
I almost don’t want to publish this now, because apparently the fate of Veronica Mars is still up in the air — they could still decide in the next couple of weeks if they’re going to go ahead with the FBI Veronica version. So don’t be too upset that Veronica’s not on this list.
Ugh. There’s practically nothing to comment on. I guess we should all be looking forward to Gossip Girls, from O.C. creator Josh Schwartz, but I hate to break it to you guys: Those books suuuuuuuuckkkk. I mean they’re just awful in every way. Maybe Schwartz will figure out a way to make the characters believable, likable, or interesting, but it’s going to be an uphill battle.
And I just can’t bring myself to care about anything else here. What about you?
Gulp … I kind of like the GG books. I mean, in a completely guilty pleasure “WHY is she dropping so many fecking BRAND NAMES” way. It’s Sweet Valley High for a new generation.
I think it could make entertaining fluffy television.
I like them as well, as long as they aren’t compared to, you know, “real” books. For what they are, they kick ass. For anything else, not so much. Also, the TV show has Bridget from the Traveling Pants movie. Sold!
We’ve been debating the casting (*someone* put together an email with all of the cast photos) around the office for a few days. It looks like they’re really trying to make it The OC in New York, as Dr. Michael Mancini’s former-prostitute wife Kelly Rutherford has been cast as Serena’s mom. Clearly she will not be a throwaway character. I would imagine the dreadful writing of the books will be compensated for with excellent clothes and absurd apartments.
You know, I may have officially outgrown the WB/CW network. Now that Lorelai and Rory are gone, it just might be time to admit I’m too old to watch the WB/CW at 27. The WB had interesting original programming, but the CW is excited about reality shows. I grew up in an age where the Real World was actually kind of fun and shocking. Now most reality tv just feels like reruns.
Vm is a good show - well, was a good show before the network did all that tinkering (hate the new formula, though like Pizonica.)
So goodbye WB/CW! Thanks for Dawson’s Creek! And Felicity! ooh and BUFFY! And Popular! And Popstars (remember Eden’s Crush?) and Everwood! And (Sniff) Gilmore Girls.
This means WAR on the CW. First no Everwood, not granting Amy Sherman-Palladino her 2 year contract that would have gotten her to stay with GG (and maybe this season would have been better), now VM off the sched? WAR I TELL YOU.
Kristen narrating “Gossip Girl” makes me so sad. “Veronica” knew from class struggle. Veronica had class. “Gossip Girl” just seems like overprivledged twits who act like 30-somethings. I didn’t like “Cruel Intentions” or “The OC,” so I’m sure I won’t like this.
I officially hate TV. Ah well, when I go home I have basic cable, so the CW will never have to pollute my screen again.
