Tonight on the TiFaux: The Return of the Show

It is with equal parts glee and terror that I inform/warn you about the return of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip tonight (though Dan did it first). I take umbrage at the suggestion that I’ve read recently that we the idiotic viewers turned on this show merely because the sketches weren’t funny. First of all, I never turned on this show and continued to watch and talk about it long after my patience with its nonsense ran out. I was and am a “fan.”

Secondly, the unfunniness was a problem, but I found the show’s infuriating lack of perspective and holier-than-thou rants and disgust with the viewing public and tortured unbalanced arguments a much bigger offense. On the other hand, even through all that, it had style, the writing was often strong, and Matthew Perry/Nate Corddry/Steven Weber did hilarious things with what they were given.

Every time I think about that show I start to develop a split personality.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming: VH1 airs VH1′s Rock Honors. I have no idea what that means. Is this a real thing? Will awards be handed out? What’s with all the old guys?

The coffee shop was playing the Jamiroquai song from that climactic (and awesome, and time-bending) final ballet in Center Stage when I stopped in this morning. Love. It.

So You Think You Can Dance is the best thing to happen to summer since the advent of half-day Fridays. You will not regret your decision. May I direct you to YouTube to search for Allison and Ivan dancing to Annie Lennox’s “Why” from last year? It’s fantastic, especially considering he is an untrained hip-hop dancer. You are going to adore this show.

Canned heat in my heels tonight bay-beee!!!

I watched Studio 60 last night and it was so bad it was almost immoral. Matt and Danny weren’t even on it. And Harriet was a complete jerk and pulled rank on all the other actors. I want to hit them all.

Actually I was kind of relieved that Matt and Danny didn’t show up. I like everyone else much better. I managed not to have an aneurysm last night, which was either due to the show not being that annoying or my constant mantra of “don’t get mad, don’t get mad, it’s okay, don’t get mad.” God that Simon subplot was boring, though.

The Alllison Janney thing sort of made my mind explode, as funny as she was. If The West Wing exists in Studio 60′s world, who played her love interest, Danny Concannon? But maybe my mind was already prepped to explode because I had just finished watching the Lost finale. W. T. F.?!?!?!

Right on Kiddo! How can the director on Studio Sixty know West Wing and not notice THAT HE WAS IN IT!!! Not to mention Matt and Danny. I wonder what he thinks of Aaron Sorkin? Does he think that WW never recovered from his departure? Did he like the episodes of WW THAT HE DIRECTED? This paradox (the appearance of prior loved ones from deceased series) begins to rival the Time Travel conundrum. My disbelief has crashed from it’s suspended state.

But Aaron is just playing with us – Notice the multiple confusion that AJ has between SNL and Studio 60. She isn’t even sure what city she is in. Just as AS seems not to know what show he is writing.
