Creature Comforts, we hardly knew ye

Posted by Dan June 25th, 2007 at 12:33pm In Internets TV News

As I mentioned earlier today, Creature Comforts got cancelled and it makes me very sad. It seems like they only aired two episodes before it got the can. However, what I saw of the show was delightful and now I’m trying to figure out how to get a copy of the British DVDs (it’s an American version of a British series).

The concept of the show is simple: you take interviews with real people and animate them with clay animals. The result is a sweet and often hilarious series that you can totally watch with your nieces and nephews (or kids — if you’ve taken that leap) and neither one of you will be bored.

Here’s a bit of the first episode. As you watch, you’ll definitely develop your favorite recurring characters (mine include the kid snails, the bird on the horse’s head and the WASPy cats). The rest is available at the CBS Web site and around YouTube.[kml_flashembed movie="http://youtube.com/v/NWsX6DfEtIM" width="425" height="350" wmode="transparent" /]

Who knows? Maybe it’ll get picked up by someone on cable.

That’s really lame. I thought the show was fantastic. I really liked the pigs. I wonder how many people have to watch a show in the summer for it to stay on.

The original Creature Comforts was a short film that Nick Park did after the first Wallace and Gromit short. The two films were both nominated for an Oscar in 1991, and Creature Comforts won.

Dan, I have the original UK version of Creature Comforts. You’re welcome to borrow it or come over and watch it.

Why do stupid reality shows keep lasting for years, and bad news casters with poor ratings get months of chances, but you only gave a wonderful show like ‘Creature’ only 3 chances (in the Summer no less) and then kill it?!!!? It never got a chance! It was an oasis for those of us who like to get away from reality,”entertainment” (The Paris Hilton Show),and Iraq war Television. Old Christine is crap, and you could at least let us see the 4 episodes you have left of Creature Comforts! PLEASE?
I think some people just didn’t get the chance to understand the show. My wife knows people at work that thought it was a commercial until she explained to them it was a show. Go figure. I want more.

I was afraid this would happen! My son and I LOVED this show-we’ve been looking forward to it ever since the commercials back before Christmas! How unfair that you only gave it 3 episodes! You could have at least given it more of a chance. My 10 year old is heartbroken!

I can’t believe Creature Comforts is canceled!!! It’s the funniest show I’ve seen in a long time. I told everyone at work and we all watched it, then recapped it laughing like hyenas the next day. We looked forward to the next episodes and last night, nothing! What a letdown when all we got was Old Christine! Why is it that the great shows get canceled and the mindless, unfunny ones drag on and on (2 and a Half Men)? We’re all hoping CBS will get enough messages to bring back the Creatures.

We were so disappointed when there was no new episode last night. CBS wonders why their ratings aren’t as good as others? Who complained that had that much power to shut it down after it barely started running?

I am so tired of test tubes and flashlights in a dark room. Just turn on the lights before you trip over the dead bodies. This show was a refreshing change. I guess if it is not a cookie cutter of the rest of the shows it doesn’t make. What a shame. Have some courage and let it continue.

Creature Comforts was great and was the only show I watched on CBS. It was fun and funny, not like their other so-called sitcoms. Please bring it back!

Creature Comforts was the only sitcom I watched on CBS. The rest are stupid. The reality shows are getting boring and how many crime scenes do we really need. Creature Comforts was a breath of fresh air. SHAME ON CBS for cancelling it before giving it a chance. Maybe their great anchor woman, Katie Couric didn’t like it! Maybe one of their competitors will bring it back.

You all know this isn’t a CBS website, right?

I thought “Finally, a show that’s not trite or stupid…I’ll bet they won’t leave it on very long.” I wish I had been wrong. Hey CBS, how many more slots do you have for vain, shallow people stressing over made up drama (like Big Brother)? Creature Comforts made me laugh, not so much at the caracters, but with them. I guess an intelligently produced show doesn’t rate a chance to prove itself.

I knew it! I’m a great fan of Parks & Co. and have the original Wallace and Gromit videos and any other production I could lay my hands on since I first saw W & G in an art house in the early 1970′s. When I saw the first episode of Creature Comforts I said to my sister – this won’t last. It’s hysterically funny, well done both in execution and script – it’s too sophisticated for the 99% TV viewing audience. And why, oh why was it given the 8PM time slot- right in the heart of “family viewing”…sure to raise the hackles of the repressed and religious….It should have been on at 9PM and really 10PM. You can bet 75% of any typical audience at 8PM wouldn’t “get it”. Damn & blast CBS for poor planning. I seldom watch CBS anymore at any rate as it’s just a non-stop drivel of sit coms and CSI’s – I find to my wonder that I am watching little old CH 11 90% of the time when I’m not watching CNN. CBS – Get a grip. If any of you are aware of a way to get these episodes on DVDs or whatever, I hope someone will post it here. I should have TIVO’d them.

I LOVED this show and cannot figure out why on earth CBS would pull it from their line up. What? I was shocked last night when I raced home to watch it and… it wasn’t on.

They need room for another crappy realilty show? I truly thought this show would last due to its creativity, humor and the fact I laughed the whole time.
I will be sad to see it go if they pull it completely.

This show was very funny! Please bring it back!

It was SUCH a cute show. Why couldn’t they just finish off the episodes at least? Seriously? What else is on anyways?
