Project Runway: The morning after

Okay — so, let’s hash it all out. Oh, and, uh, spoiler alert.

  • First of all, in retrospect, Simone totally seems like the kind of person where — in 10 weeks — you’ll think “remember that Simone chick?” Think Stacey Estrella. Think whatever that woman’s name was who made the outfit out of her grandma’s scarves and then showed up at the reunion pregnant. Not a big personality and a safe decision to send home (although I have to agree with Heidi — I did really like her color choices).
  • As far as the winner goes, I would have picked Christian over Rami. Admittedly, I am a sucker for plaid, but I wasn’t wild about Rami’s color and, in general, I’m not big on fake fabric flowers (especially Victorya’s gigantic metal daffodil thing — I’m surprised that was deemed to be in the top tier). While I have a feeling Christian himself might wear on me, I did think his jacket was cool and the whole get-up was well thought-out.
  • Marion: I can’t tell if he’s kind of creepy or if I’m nursing a mild crush. One or the other. Maybe both.
  • What is with all the dreamboat gay designers with the gigantic arms? Not that I’m complaining.
  • One thing I noticed is that there were a lot of garments that were, for lack of a better word, “floofy.” The big, billowy, high-volume style is apparently in, but it makes all those skinny-ass models look like whales.
  • Elisa — I can’t imagine she’s going to make it more than a few rounds. You can kind of see the glazed crazy in her eyes. But now that I say that she’ll probably turn into this season’s rosette-wielding Angela and stick around til close to the end.
  • The season preview: Jack’s big secret intrigues me. I don’t think it has anything to do with his health status — I’m thinking it has to do with some sort of Keith-ian misdeed that he comes clean to Tim about. But, then again, my instincts on these things are consistently wrong. So, y’all should know that by now.
  • I don’t anticipate this being as dramatic a season as last season. Also, it seems like the designers are bit caught up in the celebrity of Project Runway — like they’re much more aware of it this season than in previous seasons.

So, thoughts? Who do you like? Who do you not like? Leave it in the comments.

Definitely agree with you that they are much more aware about the celebrity of Project Runway. Like when they clapped when Tim said “Make it work.” I just felt like they were all thinking, “Wow. I’m on freaking Project Runway. Tim just said his line. I’m awesome!” And so many of them seem to be so accomplished, like that dude that designed a dress for Jessica Alba. It seems like a lot of the contestants are more established than in past seasons.
Also, I loved how it took the fatty 9 minutes to run across Bryant Park.

Oh, Jack and his big gorgeous arms. I will be sad to see him go if the big reveal gets him booted out. We like him and Rami, the Israeli army commando-designer (Ali and I have decided that is what he is).

Good call on Elisa being this season’s Angela. Roommate and I looked at each other and hollered, “JUBILEE JUMBLES!!” when she started Daniel Franco–ing about her bliss or whatever the fuck.

And I love Chris. I hope he sticks around because he’s like Harvey Fierstein, and who doesn’t love him? I want him and Tim to be sitting back with cocktails watching the other designers through a two-way mirror. I love that he made a dress that fit the model’s body, rather than a floofy pillowcase. I hate that look and hope it dies.

Ugh, shut it, One Straight Guy. He totally wants to be Jeffrey and I think he sucks. And I like the pale catty one who seems like a combination of Emmett and Andrae. Looking forward to seeing what he can do.

I do also have no opinions about the girls other than crazy-eyes Elisa: Sweet P and Kit Pistol are interchangeably pretentious and I decided early on to hate Jillian. We’ll see where that goes.

Christian reminded me of Chris Kattan playing “Mango” on Saturday Night Live. Check it out:

    Am I crazy?

I’m actually quite curious about Elisa, even if she is clearly crazy. Although her dress was a disaster, it was also original and the lines on the dress part, without the tail, were interesting. Since she also seems to be the resident nutjob this year, I image the producers will keep her around as long as they can possibly justify it (think Vincent and Angela from last year).

I really like Jack’s dress and use of color, plus he’s fabulous eye candy. This is the first I’ve heard of some big secret and now I’m worried — especially when there are so many others I’d like to see go home first. Mainly, anyone with a made-up name.
