The Nanny credits. [kml_flashembed movie="http://youtube.com/v/zaFl6Y-vByE" width="425" height="350" wmode="transparent" /]
This is the greatest in the “sing-a-summary-of-the-show” genre of credit sequences, which also includes The Beverly Hillbillies, Gilligan’s Island, Green Acres, and of course The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. These types of credits are out of fashion now, but they’re always, always awesome.

watching that intro just made me think:
what a great premise for a show!

And so say we all! This show and its star suffer a lot of taunts, but it was (by and large) delightful. Especially for a half Jewish, half Catholic family to watch.
The Nanny theme, by the way, was written (words and music) the wonderful chanteuse, Ann Hampton Calloway (daughter of John, sister of Liz).
Don’t forget to mention the previous champ, ‘The Patty Duke Show’ theme”
“Meet Cathy, who’s lived most everywhere,
From Zanzibar to Barclay Square.
But Patty’s only seen the sights
A girl can see from Brooklyn Heights — What a crazy pair!
But they’re cousins,
Identical cousins all the way.
One pair of matching bookends,
Different as night and day.
Where Cathy adores a minuet,
The Ballet Russes, and crepe suzette,
Our Patty loves to rock and roll,
A hot dog makes her lose control — What a wild duet!
Still, they’re cousins,
Identical cousins and you’ll find,
They laugh alike, they walk alike,
At times they even talk alike —
You can lose your mind,
When cousins are two of a kind.”
