Next week is the big Project Runway finale! Hold on to your hats, suckers!
This week, though, we found out who would be joining birdy Christian and personified nervous breakdown Jillian at Fashion Week.
I’m breaking down last night’s results with some hardcore analysis after the jump, but for now you can say who you think should have won.
So, it’s Rami. He of the Grecian drape, the shorn dome, the halting accent and the mesmerizing arms. And while we love Chris — with his belly laughs and his John Waters meets, well, John Waters sensibility — it looks like he wasn’t able to avoid a second elimination.
Who deserved to win, though? I have to say something grabbed me about Chris’ collection. It was very Edward Gorey.
I get Tim’s monkey house metaphor, but I interpret the situation differently. Saying you get used to the stink is implying that it is, in fact, a stink. However, I think there’s just a shock value in everything Chris does. Calling it “costumey” only serves to dismiss it without a real discussion.
The fact is that the hair, while creepy as all hell, looked pretty awesome (except when he had it hanging from the back of the jacket — frankly, that treatment just made it look like the mannequin had an out-of-control hairy ass).
As far as Rami’s three pieces go, I loved the second dress (the drapey one that Nina liked). It looked beautiful, not out-there and over-thought. And the dramatic gown looked good too, although I agree that those hip-accentuating embellishments weren’t a good idea.
I really didn’t like the third look, though. I’ll be overjoyed on the day when we all unanimously decide that those big, poofy, voluminous numbers aren’t working for anyone.
So, I guess that I can’t really feel too bad for Chris because he already got eliminated once and had been designing on borrowed time. But if I had to pick a more creative, interesting look — he’d be the winner hands down.
Thoughts?
I really liked what Rami did, especially that swirly, geometric dress. The giant blue coat didn’t do anything for me, but I think his clothes, on the whole, are gorgeous.
I hope the producers of Edward Scissorhands: The Musical call up Chris March post haste.
