Design Star finale: Vote for the winner

Aside from my unrequited love letter to co-finalist Matt Locke, I haven’t really talked about this season of Design Star. Suffice to say, it’s been enjoyable enough to keep me coming back week after week. However, that may just be because of aforementioned beefcake.

The series is down to two finalists: Matt and the bubbly bottle blond Jennifer. Jennifer is an immensely likable gal who likes to paint leaves on walls. Her whole backstory is that she auditioned with her husband, also a designer, but only she made it. She is friendly and cute but, of course, I cannot support her instead of you-know-who.

Last night’s penultimate episode featured the two designers designing homes for New Orleans families whose homes are still devastated by Katrina. They received the help of a crew of carpenters as well as eliminated contestants Trish and porn Mikey. Both families received their new homes with reactions of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition proportions.

If you’re so inclined, you can vote for the winner here. Last year’s choice was pretty clear — there was pleasant and easygoing Kim versus loud, shirtless surfer Todd. This year — it’s anybody’s guess.

Would You Rather and KFM: It’s Friday and I’m tired

Back in days of yore, I used to trade e-mails with friends to pass the time asking each other questions normally reserved for sorority sleepovers or childrens’ birthday parties. The two games were Would You Rather and Kill, Fuck, Marry (later sanitized in 30 Rock to “Kill, Boff, Marry”).

Since we’re stretching to generate content this week, here are some WYRs and KFMs for you to chew on and mull over.

Vote and justify your answers or create more WYRs and KFMs in the comments. Or don’t.

But, just saying, it’s always more fun when it’s more than just me talking.

Watch this now.

Listen, I don’t ask much of you.

All I need you to do is watch the following video — the newest Brenda Dickson parody. I’m not sure if it’s new, but it’s new to me. (For the uninitiated — see the original here.)

True Blood dating: Cute. Real cute, HBO.

I’ve got to hand it to the folks in HBO’s marketing division — they’ve come up with a bit of a winner in terms of viral marketing for the upcoming True Blood series.

Take a look at the Chemistry.com spoof below.

Now, go to the Web site: Lovebitten.net. It’s a real life, functioning dating site for humans and vampires, custom-made for the dating needs of the undead.

It’s especially nice that the site meets the needs of the much-marginalized homosexual vampire community by having a m4mv option.

What’s that song in the iPhone 3g commercial? It’s The Submarines

Unlike many hipsters, I’m always glad to see bands I like featured in commercials. If they’re keeping food on the table and gas in the tour van, then I’m a happy camper.

On that note, one of my current favorite bands has landed the new iPhone 3g commercial. It’s The Submarines and the best song off their new album Honeysuckle Weeks. The song is called “You, Me and the Bourgeoisie” and it’s driven by some bouncy keyboards and the sweet/smokey voice of singer Blake Hazard (who is — fun fact — the great-great grandaughter of F. Scott Fitzgerald. The more you know, indeed!)

If you’re a long-time reader, you probably still won’t remember this, but I covered The Submarines for this here blog a couple years ago. I think I was still getting over the cuteness of the band. It’s made up of a man and woman who began trading musical tapes after they had broken up. Eventually, they fell back in love over the music and now they’re married.

Babies!

Below, find the Italian version of the commercial (no one appears to have uploaded the American version yet).

And now, here’s the band performing the song live.
