Friday Night Lights: After the Fall

Last week on Friday Night Lights: Coach is at East Dillon. So is Julie. Matt is delivering pizzas, and JD McCoy is a jackass. New people include Vince, who is very fast and quite surly, and bartender Alicia Witt and her National Anthem–singing daughter. The East Dillon football team got whipped so badly in their first game that Coach forfeited the second half. We cried. So: onward!

Giveaway: The Prisoner Complete Series on Blu-Ray

1-prisoner-patrick-mcgoohan-1

Why write new shows when you can just do the old ones again?  There’s Knight Rider. There’s The Bionic Woman. Money in the bank, my friends.

But perhaps I’m being to quick to judge. Sometimes (dare I say, usually) sci-fi and action movies don’t tend to age well. So perhaps there’s good reason for the new V and the new version of The Prisoner coming to AMC.

Speaking of The Prisoner, we’re helping to celebrate the release of the original series on Blu-Ray by giving away a copy. The Prisoner is a cult British series from the late sixties about secret agents, shadowy figures and a strange town known only as The Village. Learn more about it here.

The new version, in case you were wondering, stars Jim Caviezel plays the starring role of Number Six. You might remember him as Jesus.

Promise This, Promise This: The Lady Gaga Video Jukebox

Personally, I have no use for Lady Gaga. She doesn’t do my kind of music, and I find her costumes/productions to be nightmarish in a Guillermo del Toro horror movie way.  (You know, the kind with fantastic creatures.) But she’s been inspiring a lot of good stuff out there in TV land, so let’s take a look.

First, a performance of hers from her turn on SNL. This convinced me that, fine, there might actually be something under those weird bubble dresses. The good stuff kicks in around the two-minute mark.

Best. Set-dressing. Ever.

On Halloween we watched A Nightmare on Elm Street on TV, as one does, and thanks to HD technology and a massive TV we noticed the best thing ever in the background of a scene in the Sleep Institute.

This movie terrified me as a child, and now the poster of a giant cat riding the San Francisco trolley has officially erased any residual fear I ever felt. Thanks, set dresser!

I am now obsessed with this image, as every right-minded person in the world should be. I’ve been talking about it non-stop on twitter, but now I bring this quest to you, faithful readers. Happy late Halloween.
