Okay, so I’m late with this week’s Who Won Thursday. Honestly, my tardiness can be directly related to the activities of volcano Eyjafjallajokull, but it’s not really worth explaining. And, according to me, this post isn’t officially late unless Jesse beats me with his SNL recap. I’m in more of a grace period here.
Still, we don’t have time for screwing around. This is this quick and dirty edition of Who Won Thursday. I’m just going to announce the winner.
All four of this week’s shows were pretty strong, actually. From Erin’s “in foster care, my hair was my room” to Tracy’s “he really did not want to live here,” there were commendable parts of all shows. But we don’t have time to go into that. Community wins because of its ambition. It really committed to its full-length Goodfellas parody — the only instance in which Abed’s editorializing makes sense. Also, I liked how they created a believable chicken-finger economy. Doing a full-length parody didn’t mean that they skimped on the one-off gags. Troy got the best of them, from “It’s an animal that looks like a dude — why don’t I have ten of them?” to “My monkey hates this caviar.” (And personally, I do like it when they expose Britta for the buzz-kill she is, and they got some good shots about her into the beginning of this episode.) I still really wish that every episode didn’t end with some lesson about the importance of their friendship, but there was enough good stuff to make me forgive their reliance on that. All it was missing was a long, through-the-kitchen tracking shot.
