Paula gets new diamonds whenever she gets new hair, I think.

During her visit, Kathy hit on Paula’s single son, Bobby (I prefer Jamie, but he’s married), and Team Griffin attempted to cook something. And there was a big, boozy, Walker-style dinner, complete with Kathy commenting that Paula’s gay assistant, Brandon, was turning into a Jacqueline Susann novel. Which was awesome. But my favorite part was when Paula was tasting the monstrosities Team Griffin put together in her palatial kitchen, and confided that she knows “girls that sometimes, they don’t always swallow their food while they’re filming,” but that Paula always swallows her food. And I KNOW she is talking about Giada! That skinny twit does not eat her food. (But I do. It’s pretty good.)

I am loving where Kathy is going with all the splendid divas this season. I hope Cher is next. And here’s a fun piece of trivia for you to impress your friends: Paula Deen and Susan Sarandon are the same age. Susan is actually a few months older. Yep. Also, Amy Adams is older than Ryan Reynolds. I find that surprising.

I’ll probably DVR it, as I will be out on the town. Most likely passed out drunk in the corner of a dive bar by 12:05, covered with confetti and wearing a silly hat.

In light of this news (which isn’t actually news, but… you know…  ok, shut up…), here’s a really funny part of an interview that she did with Defamer.

I’m a double Emmy nominee. Can you believe this shit? Can I tell you the press release that Bravo wouldn’t let me do? Because they said they wanted something to put out there when I got the news today. And my official statement was, “Does this mean I can go to Lifetime and get more money like Project Runway did?” I thought that was funny, but today I heard from my publicist that Bravo won’t release that. So I said somebody with a sense of humor should release it, then.

Still, it’s been a good long while and I really want to see what kind of backstage shenanigans went down when Kathy co-hosted the New Year’s Eve special on CNN with Anderson Cooper. I am pretty sure cameras were rolling.

I know you were worried.

The one thing that gets me about Kathy Griffin’s show is that as the series gets more and more popular, it risks losing its identity. That is, after winning an Emmy, dating the Apple guy, selling out Madison Square Garden and having a show that lasts four seasons, it’s getting harder and harder to sell the idea that Kathy’s a scrappy little performer who is happy with whatever she gets. During her first Bravo comedy special, I truly believed she was happy to get a gig at Hollywood Squares. Now, I’m pretty sure she’d only do it to up the perception that’s she’s the underdog.

It’s a real concern for a comedian — to be perceived as hapless. Smug people who get what they want are rarely funny. But, I guess, they’ve got their title and they’re sticking to it. It’ll still be funny, I’m sure, but that’s one thing that’s been bugging me as the hoopla begins over the new season.
