It’s Emmy season! And, frankly, thank God because there sure as hell isn’t anything else to talk about when you have a TV blog these days (Project Runway! July 16 can’t come fast enough!). So, I’m sure to get some mileage out of this.

For some reason the people behind the Emmys are slowly leaking out the top ten lists of semi-finalists. They started off with just the best dramatic and comedic series and are now methodically leaking the other categories.

So, in our methodical discussion of who the nominees and winners should be, let’s start with the only leaked category thus far where I’ve actually felt where there was a surprise: lead actress in a comedy.

Of course, we have La Fey and a handful of Desperate Housewives (no Teri Hatcher, though!), but Sarah Silverman also made the cut! Who’d have guessed?

Here are the nominees. Feel free to add people you think deserved a nomination.

There probably isn’t much of a point to this poll, because I’m sure it’ll be a Fey landslide. And rightfully so. I feel like this season she has really proven her chops as a comic actress in addition to being the creative force behind the show. However, you have to give some credit to Mary Louise Parker, Sarah Silverman and, hell, even Christina Applegate (she really sells the hell out of what she’s given on Samantha Who?). The ladies all do a fine job.

As far as the Desperate Housewives go. Meh.

Recently (or, more likely, not so recently), pop culture has revealed the concept of the “cougar.” It’s a pretty ugly term, really, if you ask me.

It refers to a woman Of A Certain Age who has a notably voracious sexual appetite for the young mens. Perhaps it has something to do with the rising number of aging leading ladies, or perhaps it has something to do with the rejection of the notion that women can’t age as gracefully as men and retain all the same sexual appetites.

I don’t know — gender studies weren’t/aren’t on my area of expertise. Suffice it to say, a cougar is a lady who is pre-menopausal, post-wild-oats-sewing, empowered and confident. Think Kim Catrall on Sex and the City.

On that note, let’s have a dumb survey. Who’s your favorite TV cougar? (Needless to say, I’m feeling sick and can’t think very straight — you’ll have to let this post slide)

• Jan (The Office) - Not to make this the week of Jan, but she has made her love of her ex-assistant Hunter quite explicit. In a creepy way, to be sure.
• Katherine (Desperate Housewives) - This week, we learned that the character played by Dana Delaney was actually banging Teri Hatchers’ character’s teenage cousin ten years ago. She’s not necessarily the most likable character, but she’s got great hair and no shortage of sass.
• Addison (Private Practice) - I gave up on this show almost simultaneously as it began, but I do know that she had a superficial thing going for the guy who played Piz on Veronica Mars (remember that gross ogling scene on the backdoor pilot for Private Practice? Read that post, it’s much better than this one).
• Samantha (Sex and the City) - The cougar icon.
• One of the dames from Cashmere Mafia/Lipstick Jungle - From what I understand, these shows are chock full of ‘em.

I’ve been told they’re worth the investment.

• No more pricey pilots for NBC.
• NPR interviewed the guy who plays Omar on The Wire.
• Zap2It has a list of the new Top Chef: Chicago contestants.
• Fox and the CW are scrapping new projects left and right.
• Name a celebrity you’d be less interested in watching a reality show about than Denise Richards.
• Thank God, Jenna Fischer isn’t dating David Spade.
• Breaking Bad did pretty well.
• TV Guide talks to one of of the loves of my life, Felicity Huffman, about the possibility of more death on Desperate Housewives.

I can’t believe how warm it is. Time to put on my mesh tank top.

• USA Today reviews last night’s Daily Show.
• After Ellen talks to the lovely lesbians from The L Word.
• Remember Daybreak? You know, Taye Diggs + dead girlfriend X Groundhog Day = flop show. It’s coming to DVD.
• Looks like The Golden Globes are going to just be a press conference this year.
• Jerry Seinfeld’s getting sued for defaming a cookbook on Letterman.
• Sophia Hill talks about One Tree Hill.  I don’t know why I’m posting this.
• The Playmate from Celebrity: Apprentice opens up. So to speak.
