Things to watch that are awesome

So last night I was watching The Late, Late Show With Craig Ferguson, as I do in these weeks where I can work from home and therefore sleep in, and his first guest was Michael Sheen, and the interview was completely awesome. I highly recommend it. My favorite parts are where they talk about how it’s not Dick Van Dyke’s accent in Mary Poppins that was a bit weird, it’s that the rest of Britain has it wrong, and the bit about the Welsh congregating on Cardiff.

Seriously, Kate Beckinsale left this man for this guy? That’s just madness. You might also note, if you’ve been reading any Twilight-related promotional material at all, as I have, since I have a subscription to Entertainment Weekly and they have turned themselves into Stephenie Meyer’s handmaidens of doom recently, that he did not repeat the extremely tired anecdote about how his daughter (with Kate Beckinsale) lost her shit when she found out he was going to be within hugging distance of Robert Sparklypants Pattinson. That is what I like about Craig’s show. It’s fun.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian readers (and half of Maggie). We are thankful for you (and just a little tiny bit late). We hope you had pie and poutine and roasted caribou or whatever your traditional dishes are. In celebration, enjoy your fellow Canadian Ellen Page doing a new spin on this classic Bugs Bunny routine:

Green Porno: Prawns getting it on is even less sexy than you imagined

Hopefully, this is old news to you, but Isabella Rossellini’s informative, beautiful and unfathomably weird internet series Green Porno has gone live with its third season.

Green Porno consists of Ms. Rossellini (and her accent) re-enacting the bizarre mating rituals of a variety of animals — generally the weirder ones like insects and snails and such. For the record, my favorite has always been the one about bees.

This season, it’s all about marine life. Furthermore, she’s added an ecological bent to the proceedings by examining how these animals get from the sea to your dinnertable with the help of a marine biologist named Claudio Campagna.

Here’s a teaser for the third season to give you a glimpse of the aesthetic.  See the whole third season here.

Between Two Ferns: Bradley Cooper

Between Two Ferns returns

Zach Galifianakis’ Web series Between Two Ferns has returned, this time featuring one of the elite women who I’ve added to my list of “Would totally make out with if the situation was right and I had a bit of a buzz.”

Here’s Zach interviewing Natalie Portman (and featuring her dog Whiz). It occurs to me that this series sort of resembles a modern-day version of The Chris Farley Show sketch on SNL. Only instead of Farley’s awkward, flustered enthusiasm, Galifianakis gives us awkward, sleazy absurdism.

I Would’ve Called It “The Green Horny”

Listen. We need to talk about your porn habit. It’s getting a little, well, weird.

I understand the first part. Isabella Rossellini is beautiful. Who wouldn’t want to see her star in a dirty Internet video? So, when you saw a link that said Green Porno, and saw her name attached to it, I can’t blame you for clicking.

Also, I realize that penises in porn movies are supposed to be comically large. But, seriously, some of the ones in those videos are bigger than she is. It’s not just that they’re scarily oversize, they’re…not human. Then…Oh God. Is she dressed like a whale, with a six-foot whale erection? She is! And she’s totally boning that lady-whale GOOD GOD THIS IS STRANGE.

I must admit, there’s something oddly adorable about the way she, while dressed as a pile of sexually amorphous limpets gettin’ it on, triumphantly shouts, “We’re sequential hermaphrodites!” I’ll also allow that it’s easy to get sucked in, with each of these little videos taking less than two minutes (much less, if you skip the credits). And sure, people only watch nature documentaries to catch glimpses of animals doin’ it, so there must be something compelling about a series devoted to undersea animals getting their grooves back.

But, really, can’t you just watch PornHub like everyone else?

Well, then, the second season of Green Porno is currently streaming on The Sundance Channel.

Excess of riches: MGMT played on iPhones and iPod touches

I’m no Mac nerd, but this is pretty cool.

These British lasses (called The Mentalists) learned to cover Kids by MGMT only using apps for the iPhone and iPod touch.

How To on Hulu

Again, not a lot to give you today — but here’s some “How to” stuff from your friends at Hulu and the “Howdini.”  It’s like Houdini.  Except “how.”

I’m so tired.

Anyway, first up, how to make mini-quiches.

Second, and more importantly, here’s how to housetrain a puppy.  This is recommended viewing, whether you have a dog or not.

Things that still exist: Thunderant

A lot of times I’ll introduce shows I find on the internet and then never reference them again. However, these things do go along without us.

Case in point, Thunderant.  The lovechild of SNL’s Fred Armisen and musician Carrie Brownstein, it’s comedy for indie rock nerds. The cute hipster duo is still going strong with their latest, Film Club.

So get your cardigan and/or your plaid shirt — here’s the latest installment.
